It was finally the beginning of summer, which meant the start of your internship at The Ministry of Magic. You still couldn’t believe that you had received your acceptance letter not long ago.

As you didn’t want to be late on your first day, you reached the Ministry of Magic ten minutes earlier and saw that most interns had arrived.

Once everyone gathered there, a man in his late thirties said, “Hello, everyone! Welcome to the Ministry of Magic. My name is Jason Duarte and I’m the Head of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. For the next week, you’ll be working alongside me and my colleagues.”

“I’m aware that you must’ve thought that you’d start working from Level 2 but unfortunately we couldn’t take you there due to unforeseen circumstances. Nevertheless, I do hope that you enjoy your time with us and at the same time learn something. We’ll be going to the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad Division. Here you’ll be taught how to correct the mistakes caused by witches and wizards.”

You were told how to reverse spells and potions for the next thirty minutes and then given a task.

Task:

Jason, a wizard, was on a vacation with his parents in Peru. However, he saw that some kids from his school were making fun of him. So, to show them he was more powerful than them, he transfigured them into cats. Further, he also used a charm to modify the weather.

Your task is to write a report on the above incident. Please, include the description of the incident, steps you would’ve taken, the reversal spells used by you, the outcome, and finally the conclusion.

This task is worth 10 beans; you get an additional 10 beans if you submit the week one task by the end of this week. You have until June 30th, 2024 11:59 PM HoL time to submit the task.

Incident Report: Unauthorized Use of Magic by Jason R.
Date of Incident: 2nd June 2024
Location: Trujillo, Peru
Reported by: Intern Janne Halla

Description of Incident:
During a vacation in Peru, Jason R., a wizard student from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, encountered several of his peers who were mocking him. In response to their taunts, Jason used his wand to transfigure the offending students into cats. Following this, he cast a Weather Charm, significantly altering the local weather patterns, and causing an abrupt and intense thunderstorm.

Steps Taken:
Upon receiving the distress call from local magical authorities in Peru, my mentor and I arrived at the scene promptly. My initial assessment confirmed the presence of six transfigured cats and an unnatural weather condition over Trujillo. The cats, identified as Jason's schoolmates, were visibly distressed and scattered around the town square.

I first cast a Containment Charm to ensure the transfigured students remained within a safe perimeter. This prevented them from wandering into potentially dangerous areas.

Using the Counter-Weather Charm, my mentor and I gradually restored the weather to its natural state, dispersing the thunderstorms and reinstating the typical sunny conditions of the region.

I proceeded with the spell to reverse the transfiguration. Each student returned to their original human form without apparent physical harm, though they were understandably shaken by the experience.

The local Healer was summoned to conduct a thorough check-up on all affected students to ensure there were no lingering effects from the transfiguration or weather alteration.

Jason was interviewed to understand his motives and the specifics of the spells used. He expressed remorse for his actions.

Outcome:
The transfigured students were safely returned to their original forms and received counseling for their ordeal. The local weather conditions were restored without any lasting impact on the environment or local population. Jason was taken into temporary custody for questioning and subsequently handed over to his parents and a representative from Hogwarts for further disciplinary action.

Incident Report: Underage Sorcery Outside School by Jason M.

Full Name: Jason Richard Moore
Age: 14
Location: Arequipa, Peru
Date: 1 June 2024
Charge: Underage use of magic outside of school, in front of multiple muggle eye-witnesses.

Incident Description:
During a vacation, Jason encountered some schoolmates who were teasing him. In an impulsive reaction, he transfigured his schoolmates into cats and cast a weather-modifying charm that caused a sudden and unnatural change in the local climate, resulting in a heavy downpour and strong winds. Before he could cast another spell, the AMRS had arrived

Immediate Response:
Upon receiving the alert about the magical disturbance, the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad (AMRS) was promptly dispatched to the scene. The following steps were taken to address the situation at hand:
1. Securing the Area: The first priority was to ensure the safety of Muggles and prevent further exposure to magical activities. The area was cordoned off using protective charms to create a temporary barrier to conceal the people involved.
2. Assessment of Affected Individuals: The team identified the transfigured children, in the form of cats at the moment, and started official verification procedures. Meanwhile, the weather conditions were also examined.

Reversal Procedures:
1. Reversing the Transfiguration Spell: The team employed the Revelio Charm to reverse the cat transfigurations, immediately after the children were identified.
2. Reversing the Weather-Modification Charm: The weather modification charm was identified as Metelojinx, and was promptly corrected with the counter charm Meteolojinx Recanto.

Outcome:
1. The reversal procedures applied were successful and no one was permanently harmed.
2. The team detained Jason along with the other three children and informed the parents of all four children involved. The parents soon arrived at the location where the AMRS explained the situation to them and the children were allowed to leave with their parents, pending a summon at a later date.
3. The Muggles in the vicinity were oblivious to the magical occurrences, due to the effective use of the Forgetfulness Charm, which ensured that their memories of the incident were modified or erased.

Conclusion:
The incident was effectively managed by the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad, showcasing the importance of quick response and effective reversal/corrective measures. Jason was counselled on the responsible use of magic and the potential consequences of underage use of magic outside school. He was also issued a formal warning and assigned to complete a series of educational sessions on magical ethics and control, along with the notification of a pending official summon by the ministry.
This incident and its resolution in an effective and timely manner demonstrates the critical role of the AMRS in maintaining the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. This report will be submitted for review and archiving within the Ministry of Magic records.

Incident Report: Usage of Magic Around Muggles
Reported By and Position: River Fenwick, Intern

Date: 2024, June 2nd
Location: Cusco, Peru
Case Status: Closed
Brief Description: An underage wizard named Jason W. transfigured other children from his school into cats and used a charm to modify the weather. AMRS initiated the protocol for muggle exposure and weather charms, and Jason was issued a warning and mandatory safety training.

Incident Description:
While on vacation in Peru, Jason W. ran into some classmates who were reportedly teasing him. Due to this, Jason felt the need to show that he was stronger than them, tranfiguring them into cats and using a charm to modify the weather in the area. AMRS was immediately notified and arrived on the scene shortly after.

Procedure Executed:
Upon arriving on the scene, AMRS first contained the area, ensuring no unauthorized figures could leave or enter while concealing the scene from unwanted eyes via charms. Next, members split up to ensure the weather was regulated back to normalcy for the area and undo the transfiguration of the students. AMRS got the incident account from Jason W. and the children, deeming the incident worthy of a warning and mandatory safety training for Jason W. Once everything had been dealt with, Obliviators were called in to remove the memory of magic from Muggle memories.

Charms Used:
1. Containment Charm
2. Fidelius Charm
3. Counter Weather-Modifying Charm
4. Revelio Charm
5. Memory Charm

Outcome:
The weather and transfigured students were successfully restored to their previous forms. The parents of the underage individuals involved have been notified of the incident, as has their school, and have been offered support. Jason W. received a warning for the unauthorized usage of magic around Muggles and is to complete mandated wizarding safety training at their school.
