The next day, while horsing around with a couple friends out on the castle grounds, it’s decided to spend the afternoon on the quidditch pitch. Thankfully your dramatic change toward having a more pleasant outlook for what’s on the horizon continues to linger as you enjoy the sunshine.
Everyone taking to their brooms, you kick off the ground, getting a little summertime practice in amongst goofing off with a few flashy flips and tricks.
When all at once you stop and begin to hover with your broom pointed toward the grandstands and a perplexed look on your face, one of your buddies pulls over next you and asks, “What’s up?”
“Not sure…” you say, hesitantly.
The truth is, out of the corner of your eye you’d spotted someone in a black suit and dark glasses watching you from the spectator’s area not far away. Only in the second it took for them to remove the glasses, fix their gaze upon you and give a friendly wink, promptly there was nobody there.
You’d be more inclined to believe it was just your imagination playing tricks on you, but as the man in black disappeared, a voice came flooding in to fill your mind and body with a message that only leaves you more steadfast to take this next year by storm.
Don’t stop moving, and don’t look back, the voice had said. And do not be afraid.
Although normally there would be something ominous about hearing this message from some strange man who’s obviously trying not to be noticed by the others, you find yourself even more elated than you’d already been waking up this morning. Something about it feels more like a reminder from a teacher or mentor—or even a grandparent!—and not at all frightening as you’d expect.
“…Must have been a trick of the light,” you muse before the exhilaration has you speeding off once more.
