Before any form of magic can be directed, there must first be awareness of what is already present.

Muggles practicing loving-kindness do not begin by trying to immediately generate warmth or compassion. Instead, they begin by noticing. What is here right now. Thoughts, feelings, tension, distraction, even resistance. All of it counts.

This is a step that can feel deceptively simple, and yet it is foundational. If we attempt to direct kindness without first acknowledging our current state, the practice can begin to feel forced or disconnected.

In Muggle terms, this is the difference between reacting and responding. Awareness creates the space in which intention can actually take hold.

If it feels helpful, you might begin with something simple like,
May I notice what is here.

The goal is not to change anything. It is simply to observe, without judgment, whatever happens to be present.

Task:
Take some time to set the ground by completing the following Jigsaw puzzle. There’s no need to rush. Let your attention move at its own pace, noticing what draws your focus as you go.

Once finished, post a screenshot of your completed puzzle below, including the time and number of pieces. Please remember that all images posted directly to the forum must be no greater than 600x600 pixels in size.

Alternatively, you may complete a Check-In below by writing 100 words or more for full credit. Pause for a moment and take stock of where you are right now. What is present in your thoughts, your body, or your surroundings? Share a description of this moment, just as it is.

10 beans/sapphires are available for this task, with an extra 20 for completing all Week One tasks by end of activity. Deadline is 11:59pm (HOL time) on Thursday May 14th.

Right now, things feel a bit calmer than earlier. The kids have finally settled down, and the house is still for once. There’s that stillness that only comes after a busy day, when everyone has stopped asking questions, running around, or needing something at the same time.

In my thoughts, I’m already going through the list of chores that still need doing. There are dishes in the sink, laundry that needs folding, and a few small things that were left unfinished earlier. It feels like they are all waiting for me, but not urgently, thankfully.

My body feels a bit tired, but also relieved to have a short break. I can sit down for a moment without being pulled in different directions. There’s a kind of comfort in that pause.

For now, I’ve got a little free time before I get up again and start ticking things off the list.
