Week Three - Task #09. - Reptilians

Postby Prof. Sindor Aloyarc » Sun Jul 21, 2024 12:03 pm

Ten fold the manna when the planets are in place in polar alignment.

A hoarse snore snaps you groggily back to a waking state as you sit up to find yourself lying in the dorms at Hogwarts.

Sounds of deep, restful sleep heave and sigh from the other four-poster beds, and although you’re feeling unusually relaxed for having been jolted out of your own reverie, there’s a lingering sadness that it had all been a dream after all.

Rolling on your side to cuddle up with the blankets, set on returning to a blissful slumber, all at once a voice comes from the foot of the bed.

Poking your head over the covers, it’s even more alarming than the first time you caught Saffron appearing out of the shadows.

At least then I wasn’t in the dark, you snicker to yourself. While it was perhaps more startling this second time, the abrupt switch from fear to familiarity wakes you up quickly, then just as fast has your nerves settled again.

“Go to the common room,” their voice implores, the inscrutable blaze of the angel’s face flickers against their shimmering eyes and feathers as Saffron’s wings carry your friend out of the dorm.

Entering your house common room, you’re surprised to find someone sitting in one of the armchairs reading a book. You can’t recognize who it might be from this angle, but taking a step in that direction, the late burning fireplace discloses that this isn’t a human as anticipated.

Dumbfounded—and scared—at the sight, Saffron’s dulcet tones ease the burden of apprehension.

“Another extraterrestrial species known by many,” they say. “The Reptilians are tall and scaled, and they can take on the form of humans, blending in with you to gain information, resources, and power for their own goals.”

“Oh,” you murmur, “I’ve definitely heard of them. Aren’t they supposed to be a nefarious bunch?”

“Don’t worry,” Saffron acknowledges your hushed whisper, “They’re in the middle of a download and couldn’t hear us anyway.” They flit toward the person in the chair, demonstrating any lack of awareness from them. “I’ve also placed a precautionary enchantment as backup, just in case they come to, so we can speak as we please.”

Moving closer yourself, it’s evident whoever this night owl is has no idea that either of you are present. Taking in their lizard-like features, you tremble slightly as, louder than intended, you ask, “What is a Reptilian doing here in the castle?!”

Task:
Spotting a Reptilian when they’re cloaked in human form out in the world is harder than you’d think, but you can practice being keen on the uptake by solving the following Spot the Differences puzzle and Send Me Your Solution through a private message. 1 bean/sapphire for each of the 14 differences found (and 1 bonus bean/sapphire for finding all fourteen). This task will be considered “complete” once a minimum of eight differences have been spotted successfully.

When I read the words ‘alien movie’, the first thing that came to mind was E.T.-The Extra Terrestrial Even though it first debuted before I was even born, it remains one of my favorite movies, ever. From the first time I watched it with my mom to the last time I watched it with my daughter, I have found myself immersed in a sea of feels, ranging from amusement, heartbreaking sorrow, and hope for a better future. All at the hands, may I remind you, of one of the cutest (and most memorable) little aliens I have ever seen.

E.T. Was obviously not from Planet Earth, but he displayed many human characteristics. He could feel sadness, loneliness, bewilderment, and joy. He knew the power of friendship, which was evident in the way he connected with the little boy, Elliot. The bittersweet ending had me both cheering and sobbing, and most importantly, perhaps, but st the end of the movie, it actually felt like E.T. Was my friend, too.

I think it was the first movie I saw that did not portray an alien species as the ‘bad guy’, but made me think that maybe, an alien species was out there that was not so very different from us. It ignited my curiosity about alien life, in general, and that fascination has never left me. I would recommend this movie to anyone who was interested in the possibility of life beyond Earth; just don’t forget the tissues because you will need them!

An alien movie that left a lasting impression on my emotions was Arrival, a movie adopted from the book "Story of Your Life" by Ted Chiang. It involved the appearance of 12 alien craft with "heptapods"( cephalopod- like 7 legged aliens) that hovered over 12 nations all over the world bringing a message saying that the world must unite to decipher their message and they need the help of humans in the future. The message holds the key to learning a language that can change and entirely revolutionize the concept of time for humans. The misinterpretation of the message leads to a lot of chaos which is resolved in the end. My focus stays on the feelings of the protagonist and her daughter. It compels us to think about what we would do if we knew what was coming in the future. Would our emotions/ feelings in the present be any different? Are our feelings limited or dependant in any way upon our other desires? Would we make different choices had we known that our feelings would bring over a certain outcome in the future? I think that the theme explored here is very beautiful and it only makes us realise how much the present matters and can impact the future and asking us to go within and truly question if the future is really unavoidable if we had all the knowledge we could about what's coming. Had we had premonitions about the consequences of our actions everytime we did something, life would be so much easier or no? While the movie ended on a very good note, showing worldwide unity, communication with aliens, and a re - profession and confirmation of love, I was left with a lot of questions about how relaxing or not relaxing it is to know the exact future.
