Week Four: Task #15: "Everyone Has Favorites"

Postby Anne-Marie Gagne » Fri Nov 22, 2024 4:50 am

It's near the end of the hunt and you’ve had a lot of fun. You’ve seen a lot of creatures in the Forbidden Forest, both magical and non-magical, were able to distinguish which magical plants were which, and just had a great time roaming around the Forbidden Forest when you’re normally not allowed to!

You’ve encountered so many things but you’ve really enjoyed learning about one creature in particular and have decided it’s your favorite.

Task
Your task this week is to write in 100 words or more which magical creature is your favorite and why. It can be any creature, even ones that aren’t necessarily inside the Forbidden Forest itself (though, you never know what pets Hagrid may have acquired over the years).

This task is worth 10 beans/sapphires with a BONUS 10 beans/sapphires if all Week Four tasks are completed by November 30th at 11:59PM HOL Time.

I actually have more than one favorite creatures from centaur to hippogriff to unicorn to fairy to mermaid to sphinx.
Pressed to pick one, I would go with hippogriff or sphinx, inclined more towards sphinx. Sphinxes are classy creatures which is a trait that always draws me in. They are calm, unbothered, and peaceful until provoked as in until you want to get past them and when you fail to answer their question they can be outright dangerous and brutal. That is what I would call exceedingly classy. Being a sapiophile (attracted to any type of intelligence), the intelligence of a sphinx and their ability to throw creative and intelligent riddles is exceedingly attractive to me. A regal and majestic creature with an outwardly calm appearance and yet the brutality of a ferocious beast when provoked is a beauty in itself.
I also like that a sphinx has a human head and the body of a lion. It is the perfect representation of intelligence and courage intermingled.
The reason I like hippogriffs is quite the same as why I like sphinxes. Hippogriffs are classy creatures that know their worth and place a high value on politeness, and yet can be exceedingly ferocious if you do not give them the respect that they deserve.
Both are protecting something, the sphinx property and the hippogriff their respect and dignity. Both are guardian-like and hard to get past towards whatever they are protecting. I love them both.

I adore many magical creatures, but if I had to pick one specifically to name my favorite, I'd have to go with Nifflers. They typically have a gentle nature and can be affectionate, which are great qualities in a magical creature, though if they get provoked, that can change. They're fantastic at hunting for treasure, as they love shiny objects and metals, which is why they get assigned to Curse-Breakers and used by the ROCC division of the Ministry of Magic. They can cause some chaos, especially if kept indoors due to their nature, but I don't count that against them.

My favourite magical creature is probably the Phoenix. They are such beautiful, majestic creatures who are incredibly loyal to their owners (and will come to the aid of those who share similar values). They can carry incredibly heavy loads, and “flash” a person away from somewhere-even through anti-apperation wards. Their tears have immense healing powers, to the point that they can burn away basilisk venom. They periodically have burning days, and are reborn from the ashes, so they have exceptionally long life spans (or are possibly immortal). They could even take a killing curse for you and survive. All of this means that it can be very valuable to have a Phoenix’s loyalty, as they could save your life.
