Transformation - Animagus or Metamorphmagus

Postby Adeline Morior » Sat May 04, 2024 9:14 am

It is simple. If you had the choice to have a transformative ability, which would you consider the best to have?

To be able to shape into a set animal form as an Animagus or to change appearance at will such as with Metamorphmagus?

Tell us below why you feel your choice to be the better option in your opinion.

Although the thought to change ones appearance at any time and in any form, I choose Animagus. I think having a set form chosen by magical nature is interesting and shows more about your character to yourself. Besides that, since the spell is so complicated, I would see it as a great victory if or when achieved. Becoming closer to nature. Being born a Metamorphmagus is cool but it would offer to be too many options and I like a fixed state of what I can do and who I am. Changing into one form is in my personal opinion something of an acceptance from nature if I pass the long enduring of the spell needed to achieve it.

Hmm. That's a tough decision. I think I would choose being an Animagus. Although it's tempting to be able to change appearance at will, what purpose other than decorative purpose does it serve? Being an Animagus can come in handy in many situations such as needing to hide.

On this one I would have to respectfully disagree. Speaking only for myself, of course, I could see very little need to change into Animagus form. I have no desire (or need) to be a dog, cat, bird, or any other number of creatures. I just really don’t. Metamorphmagus, as has been stated, can be used for ‘fun’ cosmetic reasons. Imagine having the ability to change your appearance at will. Unicorn hair, here I come! But on the serious note, I do believe, again, for me personally, that I could use this skill for practical purposes as well. As a Healer, sometimes I am called into places where I stick out like the proverbial sore thumb. It would be helpful to blend in and do my job without all the side glances and suspicion. Also, suppose you need to enter someplace discreetly and your regular look just doesn’t cut it. Voila’, you now fit in!

I do not know if a second reply is allowed, the "fitting in" thing resonated. @Emily. I still think that being an Animagus is useful ( I am thinking Rita Skeeter eavesdropping as a beetle, but no, I don't think it's respectful to evade privacy, let's just say I can walk in and out of places as a dog or bird, without having to speak to anybody and I would really like that, especially on days when I am socially tired or specifically need to hide away in the Muggle world as a harmless animal for whatever reason). But, honestly, I never thought about it this way that a Metamorphmagus can fit in without much effort without being reliant on appearance- changing charms that are prone to backfire. How convenient to be able to do it at will without casting spells! And oh! I am actually a Muggle healer :P, and as much as I didn't see it this way until I read your reply, it makes much sense to not want to look intimidating. Haha.

I've ruminated on this for a while and I really think I'd probably want to be a Metamorphmagus. Without going to deep into it, I have body image issues and being able to change it on a whim would be so nice. Also changing my hair without having to deal with the in-between stages of letting my hair grow out or having it a different color day by day haha.

Turning into an animal would be fun though.
