Week 4 – Task 10 – Back to School Search

You are starting to feel the newness of this school year start to wear off while you get into the swing of things settling into your house dorm. You start comparing notes with your friends about your favorite things about Hogwarts as a school. Each of you has kept making the choice to come back every year by choice, not because of your parents like some of your other peers.

You decide to bring up Peeves, everyone’s favorite poltergeist. You love seeing the creativity and effort that he puts into each trick. When you mention him, your friends want to debate about what house he would fit in with the most. Personally, you think he would make a great Ravenclaw. He loves puzzles, or at least creating them for other people. His puzzles are almost always quite clever. Some of your friends disagree with you. Each house has an argument made for it.

Task: Solve the tricked up (Peeves made it) word search and send your solution to both me (Rose Dove) and Prof. Sindor Aloyarc in a private message.

Alternatively, you can write in 100 words or more about what house you think Peeves would fit in with the most. You can also choose to write about any one of the Hogwarts ghosts and if they were chosen for the right house or if they belong in another.

This task is worth 10 beans, with 15 additional beans available if all Week Four activities are completed. Everything is due by 11:59 pm HOL time on September 30th.

I would say that Peeves is a Gryffindor.
He reminds me of Fred and George Weasley and he is the spirit of chaos. He loves pranks and is good at them. He is willing to break rules and bully others. This sounds very Slytherin, of course, but in my opinion it's actually Gryffindor, because unlike Slytherins, he doesn't discriminate his victims on the basis of blood status, house, and greatness. He is annoying to everyone alike, and is afraid of the Bloody Baron instead of being friendly to him or admiring him. We cannot explain this fear of the Bloody Baron as a Slytherin sidekick - like trait, because if that was the case, he would be a bit on the clumsy side like Crabbe and Goyle if he needed a mentor, and, he would be afraid of more people but we all know that he was only afraid of a rare few and listened to pranksters (not only the people he was afraid of). Not being afraid of just anyone is a very Gryffindor trait, in my opinion. It isn't exactly clear why our beloved Peevsy was afraid of Dumbledore (maybe because only Dumbledore had the authority to remove Peeves from the castle?) or the Bloody Baron (just because he comitted a murder before dying?). He was not Hufflepuff because his loyalty was difficult to earn. He was not Ravenclaw either, in my humble opinion, because although I agree that his jokes were well-thought out as mentioned in the writing above, he was also outsmarted on many occasions such as when Harry sent him off to elsewhere from under the Invisibility Cloak by mimicking the voice of the Bloody Baron. Peeves didn't even doubt Harry's trick. I don't think that a true Ravenclaw would be outsmarted that easily.
