Task 10: Introduction of a new Board/Card game to Wizards

Postby Mia Fountain » Sun Dec 29, 2024 10:54 pm

You have grown bored with playing wizard’s chess and gobstones and have overheard some of the muggleborn students talking about some games they used to play at home. You’ve decided to help introduce a new game to the other students with the help of the muggleborn students' descriptions of the games.

What board or card game would you want to play with the other students in the common room? Would you change anything about the game to help it appeal to the other students? Would you animate the pieces like they are in Wizard’s Chess? Or would there be a different charm on the game or the pieces in it? Tell us in 75 words or more about which game you would introduce and how you could make it appeal to wizards. Or create an image of the game and what changes you would make.

Tasks will be due January 31st at 11:59pm HOL. Completed tasks are worth 10 beans/sapphires each. All images should be 600x600 px or under.

I think that Monopoly is a fun game that can be played and enjoyed by witches and wizards as much as Muggles. I would set up an enchanted Monopoly Board in the Common Room. The enchantment on the board would use animated miniature versions of the players instead of tokens, and these miniature humans would actually do things such as visiting the bank or handing over rent to another animated miniature player. The only thing that the real life - size players would do is roll the die, and the miniature versions would do the rest on the real player's command (I always thought that it was a chore to count the currency and add up my assets on my own when I played with Muggles). It would be played with fake Galleons, Knuts, and Sickles as currency. I would use an enchanted niffler model to periodically steal money from players that are not paying attention, as an additional fun wizarding world twist to the game. Of course, the places to buy on the board would be named after wizarding world places, and instead of Electric Company, there would be the Ministry of Magic. The railroads would be replaced by the Floo Network, the jail would be replaced by Azkaban with enchanted mini-models of dementors or aurors flying around, and the Free Parking area would be replaced by Hogsmeade or the Forbidden Forest!

I think it would be fun to introduce Clue into the wizarding world! I'd change it to make it more relevant to the wizarding world, like making all the suspects wizards and witches with different backstories. The items would also need a revamp, like using a wand, a broomstick, etc. The manor in which the game would revolve around would have rooms that are more focused on what I imagine a wealthy wizard's manor would have, like a dueling room.
