Week One - Task Two

Postby Anne-Marie Gagne » Tue Apr 01, 2025 11:01 pm

Introductions are done and now it's time to come up with some ideas for Easter. You already know that there will be an egg hunt but you want to hear from the rest of the group what ideas they have for the rest of the week.

In 100 words or more, I’d like you to talk about what you and your family do for Easter. If you do not celebrate Easter, I’d like you to take this time to tell us about any holidays you and your family celebrate in April or in Spring if there are none in April.

It depends on where my partner and I go for Easter and who will also be there. Some years, we go to my partner's mother's house, where we sit and talk, and occasionally, there will be an Easter dinner if enough people plan to go there that year. Other years, we go to my father's house, where we usually have an Easter lunch no matter who is there, but I have two young nieces and a nephew, so if they show up that particular year, there's usually an egg hunt around the yard for the kids. Sadly, no one offers Easter baskets to us adults anymore, which is a crime as far as I'm concerned. Adults deserve something, too.

My family normally don’t do too much for Easter, usually it’s just me my parents and sister (and in recent years maybe her partner) for Easter Sunday. Though we do sometimes see my aunt, uncle and cousins over Easter weekend. We’ll take the dogs out for a nice longish walk in the morning, then spend the rest of the day at home. My mum takes charge of Easter lunch, which normally is a lamb roast, followed by breaking into the chocolate- my parents do still buy me and my sister Easter eggs despite being adults. Though we do now get them each one too.

While easter isn't a huge celebration in our household, we do celebrate it. Me my sister, brother in law , my niece and my mum come to my dads and we have a roast dinner. Pork or chicken as no one likes lamb.
My dad preps and cooks, he even makes his own gravy using the fat of the meat. while I help prep the veg. And when everything is cooked me and my mum dish up everyone's plates, which also results in huge portions.
We buy each other easter eggs or sweets.
And we do a easter egg hunt with my niece which she absolutely loves.

Easter’s always been a light-hearted celebration in my family. We don't deal with the religious aspects of the holiday, but we celebrate it mostly because of the kids.

Their (and mine) favorite activity is painting eggs, but we like to do it a little differently. Instead of just using store-bought dye kits (though we also use those), we’ve gotten into using natural colors made from herbs and vegetables. It takes a bit more time, but it’s become part of the fun. We’ll boil red cabbage, turmeric, onion skins, and even wine to give the eggs beautiful, natural shades. Sometimes the patterns are a surprise, depending on how long you leave the eggs in or what herb you press against the shell.
