Week One - Task #04. "Potion in the Produce Aisle"

Bridgeton Grocers is surprisingly magical today. You spot a rack of apples subtly rearranging themselves by color. Bananas that peel and re-peel in rhythm. And the oranges? They're glowing faintly blue.

You slip a spell detection charm past your sleeve. The scan reveals faint traces of fluxweed and doxy dust, ingredients not typically used in fruit preservation.

You follow the trail to the back stockroom. There, behind a stack of trolleys, is a shattered potion vial and a faint scorch mark spiraling across the linoleum.

This isn’t random. Someone’s testing something, and they’re not being careful.

Task:
Create and post below an Illustration for a uniquely made up potion. Please include a brief description beneath with its name, what it does, and its ingredients (which might also be incorporated into the graphic itself). Remember that all imagery posted directly to the forum must be no larger than 600x600 pixels.

Alternatively you can write in more detail about the purpose, recipe, and considerations of your Potion, using 100 words or more for full credit. You may even include made up examples of when it’s been used, effectively or otherwise!

The potion's name is Echo Echo. When successfully brewed, it allows the drinker to hear faint traces of voices that once filled the same space, broken fragments of conversations, murmured laughter, the soft hum of past gossip, or some other, more pertinent information.

The recipe calls for fluxweed harvested at the full moon, valerian root to sharpen receptive senses, powdered bicorn horn to capture memory, shavings of a bezoar to safeguard against side effects, and a single drop of honeywater to turn the echoes into sound.

The potion must be stirred counterclockwise exactly seven times, because any mistakes cause the whispers to warp into shrieks that can leave a drinker sleepless for nights. A rumour has it that a group of Ravenclaws once brewed it to help with exam revision, only to find themselves listening to days-old chatter about Quidditch scores and who fancied whom.

My potion is called Visus Vitalis and can be extremely helpful if brewed correctly. This potion can make the user see with the acuity of an eagle. Where the normal person would see a river, the user will be able to see a fish in the current.

To start the potion, you must gather the following ingredients:
Armadillo bile
Beetle eyes
Billywig stings
Runespoor eggs
Lake water

The beetle eyes and runespoor eyes must be dried completely for at least four days prior to starting the potion. Crush the beetle eyes and runespoor eyes together in a mortar with a pestle until they become a fine dust. Transfer the dust to a copper cauldron and keep the cauldron temperature at 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Add in the billywig stings whole and gently stir until coated with the dust. Add in the armadillo bile until a paste is formed. Finally, add in lake water slowly until the mixture is thinned to a water-like consistency. Remove from heat and allow it to cool naturally. Once room temperature, syphon the potion through a cheesecloth to remove any debris.

To use: instill one drop into each eye once a day.
CAUTION: instilling more than one drop or using more than once a day will cause the user to go blind for up to a week.

My potion is called Temperatus Sensorem (more widely known by its common name-The Temperature Sensing Potion).
The purpose of this potion is to allow the recipient to regulate their body temperature for optimum comfort. It works in both cold and hot climates, and is reported to be a favorite of Percy Weasley, though one only wonders why.

The ingredients are a balance of hot and cold:

Hot:
Cinnamon, dragon's blood, iguana scales

Cold:
Mint, squid ink (thank you, Annabelle), occamy egg

Glimmerveil Draught

A swirling, iridescent liquid of pink and lavender that sparkles like liquid starlight, Glimmerveil Draught catches every ray of light and seems almost alive with tiny motes of magic that drift and twirl. The potion smells faintly of sugared violets and moonbeam honey.

Glimmerveil Draught is designed to allow the drinker to sink into a soft, sparkling haze of magical motes, effectively stepping into a dreamlike layer of the world. In this state, ordinary surroundings shimmer with hidden magic, revealing secret fae paths, twinkling enchantments, and faint whispers of unseen creatures. The potion is perfect for those seeking inspiration, magical exploration, or a moment of wonder away from mundane life. However, prolonged immersion can make returning to reality feel sudden and disorienting, so it is recommended for short, mindful journeys.

To make, gently crush petals of Moonblush Rose until fragrant, releasing their soft luminescence. Combine with dew from a silver-leaf fern, a pinch of stardust, crystallised giggleberries, and essence of lavender-glimmer mushrooms. Stir counterclockwise thrice under soft, indirect moonlight until the potion shimmers uniformly in pink and lavender hues.

My potion is the Eye Dilating Potion, which may be referred to as the Nocturnus Oculis Draught in a medical setting. Drinking the potion will dilate your eyes, helping you see better in dark spaces, or for use by Optometrists.

Its ingredients included Tincture of Demiguise, Porcupine quills, Valerian sprigs, and Dragon blood. To brew, you must place them in a cauldron in that exact order. Tincture of Demiguise and Dragon blood will need to be stirred counterclockwise 3 times each as well.

The main danger of this potion is using it and going into particularly bright places, as it could cause damage to the eyes. It's best to stay indoors, in a dark space, when under its effect. Please avoid consuming other potions while under its effect, especially those that contain Pearl Dust, which may lead to a burning sensation and/or internal burns.
