Dark Wizards Can't Swim
Sha Moseley

Like the Titanic, and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius so long ago, some say last year’s South Pacific tsunami was caused by Dark Wizards, in this case Death Eaters.

Death Eaters, ruthless minions of self-proclaimed He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, are pureblood extremists and have been known to torture and kill half-bloods, Muggleborns and Muggles for entertainment and pleasure countless of times under You-Know-Who’s reign. Though repulsive to most, incidents like the above have caused many sorrows both in the Wizarding and the Muggle world.

Some believe that on the 26th of December 2004, a group of You-Know-Who’s followers, along with You-Know-Who himself flew out to the Indian Ocean on a flying carpet, which has been banned by the Ministry of Magic (as appeared in Registry of Proscribed Charmeable Objects).

Barney Bode, a ministry official patrolling the area claims to have seen around half a dozen men in Death Eater masks. However, Bode was outnumbered, so instead he watched from a safe distance, using a Camouflage Charm. He did not get too close to the carpet in fear of being found out, but he could tell that they were arguing about something. The argument got a little violent. A Death Eater stood up, and so did You-Know-Who. The Death Eater cast a non-verbal spell into the water, and a huge tidal wave formed, about 30 meters high and traveled in the direction of the Asian beaches at a very high speed.

Muggles have numerous theories regarding the tsunami, the most widely accepted being that of an earthquake which happened in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Various values were estimated of the earthquake’s power, ranging from 8.0-9.15 on the Muggle scientist’s Richter Scale, making it one of the biggest earthquakes of recorded history. Muggle scientists also reported that this earthquake lasted for about ten minutes, meanwhile most earthquakes only last a couple of seconds. This earthquake triggered smaller ones as far as Alaska, and even caused the planet to vibrate.
