How to Make a Baby in 5 Minutes
Adeliene Cromwell

I, Adeliene Cromwell, take full responsibility for the new baby craze. How many people can say they were the sole person responsible for a new trend? For those who are not on IRC often, or who have only heard about this trend in passing, trust me, you need to read on.

To begin at the beginning, many students and companies have joined Facebook- a place originally created to network and reconnect with past peers and co-workers. Recently, Facebook has become a haven of little applications that range from simple and helpful applications- such as calendar and an address book, to applications that have absolutely no point except pure entertainment.

This application, “Make a Baby,” is not only for pure fun, but it is absolutely addicting. This is a family application--completely...PG rated. I cannot say G rated because of some of the options in the “poking the baby area.” Mostly, you can just love and cuddle the babies.

Anyways, the application is quite simple: you log onto the application, fill out a genetics form, and BAM! Off you go. You can request to make babies with other people, or even create your own!! Honestly, how addicting can it be? Well, the babies are absolutely adorable. Figuring out names and of course, clothing the babies!! Since it is Halloween, there does happen to be a nice selection of Hogwarts robes. Yes, you can dress these perfect little angels (or devils, depending on the kid *g *) in little Hogwarts robes. Unfortunately, the application doesn't seem to understand how wonderful Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw (of course!) are, since they only offer Slytherin and Gryffindor coloured garments.

Another slightly addicting thing about this application involves the babies’ appearances. For example, I myself have many red head kids, yet they come from people who do not have red hair!! Or there is the ever-popular story of Zenix James and Sophie St. Clair. These two lovely HOLers are both Caucasian Americans, and yet, they somehow “made” a baby dark as chocolate. (Coincidentally, they named the baby Cocoa.)

Maybe I am biased, or maybe this really is a conflict of interest. So I asked two other students to give a quick opinion of this application. (Quick...haha.)

Adelline Aldridge says: “I went on Facebook one day and saw that Addie had sent me an invite to an application called ‘Make a Baby.’ I was like umm...okay, Addie lost it. But I decided to try it anyway, because it did look kinda cute. So I added it and from the moment Addie and me made our first child ("Addey" *g*) I was HOOKED. Now I have 54 babies, and I plan on having more. The program can give you twins and even up to NINE kids. NINE kids, like Tara and Addie had :O (I know, right?) But the most I've ever had was with quintuplets with Maya Winters XD. Its great fun, and seriously, having kids really strengthens your relationships with HOLers. *nods*.”

Tara Aurelium says, “Well, I signed on IRC one day, only to see people talking about mating and making babies all day. In #hpgalleries, nonetheless! So slowly (because I'm slow, yeah) I figured out what in the world was going on. And yes yes, I also got sucked into the baby making business. I'm a proud owner (err, mother?) of 71 babies. 9 of them were born in the same second, did you know? You gotta love it! I also have an ickly boy. His name is Brad Pitt and he is always going around in his pretty pink tutu.”

Boys tend to like the application as well; however, none were too willing to comment on their obsession.

Pros:
- Addicting
- An alternate way to talk to people on HOL (I would advise people to make a HOL Facebook, but then again I use my real life one)
- Application has many requests.

Cons:
- The application still has some kinks to work out, and you may have to reload frequently if too many people are on it.
