New Professors

Professors Dupont and Pandette
Maya Winters

As I pushed on the heavy oak door, hinges creaking as it swung open, I was pleasantly surprised to see that my two victims…erm guests, for the next half hour had already arrived. These "guests" were in fact two of the newest Ravenclaw staff members--Professors Mark Dupont and Lara Pandette--and my task was to interview the pair of them in order to help the rest of the students understand how best to torment irritate please them.

Seeing as they were already seated around a small table, I drew up an empty stool and after introducing myself properly decided to dive straight in, asking the simplest of questions first: what were they teaching this term at HOL and why?

Prof. Dupont, it turned out, teaches two classes--Broomflying and Rollercoasters: A Muggle Marvel. His love of the book Quidditch Through the Ages inspired him to teach the first of the two and for the Rollercoasters class, he said, "It all goes back to the phrase 'teach what you love.'" I am however, in doubt as to whether this phrase should be applied by all teachers as interesting on classes like "Dark-Mark Cookie Making"…

Prof. Pandette on the other hand, appalled at the lack of Care of Magical Creatures staff decided to join HOL and teach this important subject, telling us that "No matter where you go in the wizarding world, you're going to come up against creatures." Indeed, her classes are far from an exception to this rule, her lessons on ashwinders causing an outburst in the number of "Oh, professor, I'm so sorry my homework caught on fire" incidents.

I was rather surprised that his name hadn't somehow come up during the start of the interview, however, it only took until my second question before Professor Ulol Kimil was indeed stated as the cause for Prof. Dupont choosing Ravenclaw. His method? Bribery with a Dark-Mark Cookie. Seeing the look on my face Prof. Dupont quickly laughed it off stating that he was just fitted into Ravenclaw better than elsewhere, however…can things ever be pure coincidence when Prof. Ulol is involved? Professor Lara came to Ravenclaw more via tradition, her family before her and her herself being a Ravenclaw as a young child. Prof Pandette's seemingly high level of normalness was starting to worry me however and I was determined to unearth something more!

Both new professors have been recruited within the Roost itself already, Prof Mark is now in charge of "Fun and Games" whilst Prof Lara is organising the next "Blue and Bronze Olympics." Upon mentioning Prof Darklost's llama, Bob, resident of the Roost and Prof Kimil's domination plans the two professors became rather quiet however professing to have no quirks of their own that came to mind at all. The speed at which this reply left their lips failed to hide the flicker of amusement which passed across their eyes, betraying their true thoughts…whatever they were.

What did I learn from this interview? Well, facts wise I suppose the answer must be nothing particularly unnerving or surprising, my intuition thought, tells me not to underestimate this pair and looking at the older Ravenclaw professors, Angelus Darklost and Ulol Kimil indeed remind us of the need for caution. Beware…

Professor Mark Dupont
Suggestions or random facts:
DON'T use the phrase "I'm not even kidding!" (likely to cause smoke to pour from ears)
This hopefully shouldn't come up too much, but it's not a MAC computer (it's a Mac..)
DON'T use the wrong abbreviations - "for example" does not become "e.x."
DON'T use one-sentence answers to his homework (you should use textual evidence though)
On IRC he is known by MD, Doc and Mark the Second so as not to be confused with Mark Mandrake!
He has also proved himself not to be affected by attempts to scare him off IRC made by certain Ravenclaw students. (We're stuck with him :O)

Hints as to how to bribe him if needs be:
He loves muffins
Blue is his favourite colour
He likes Mac's (but why would anyone? *sighs*)
Loves winters, because of the snow ^_^

Professor Lara Pandette
Suggestions or random facts:
Make sure you've read the information available to you before e-mailing her asking for it
Simply echoing what was put in the lesson isn't the best idea, you're meant to be challenged by her homework!

Her favourites (possible uses: bribery purposes or lesson distractions):
Color - navy blue
Food - ice cream
Season - spring
Item - her books
Day of the week - Saturday
HP book - Goblet of Fire
Movies - either of the Pirates of the Caribbean ones

Professor Reynolds
Cassandra Lobiesk

Let us also not forget another greatly mischievous amazingly wonderful professor that has joined the eagle ranks: Professor Mallory Reynolds. Now, after having an afternoon lunch with Professor Reynolds (in which we had some of her mother's homemade tuna noodle casserole--a truly delightful dish, I might add!), I was able to extract some juicy information to be used as blackmail anytime.

Professor Reynolds is the professor of the class "Basic Tarot: Flipping Your Future." When asked why the particular class, she had replied, "I love tarot. I've always had really good readings, and love giving readings to others as well. Their reactions are priceless!"

Along with her class, Reynolds has also been around to actively participate in the Roost; she is now actually in charge of the Writer's Society. In addition to that task, she is also responsible for saving countless orphans from burning buildings (her acts of righteousness can be dated all the way to when she was 3 years old!). To top off her rather interesting lifestyle, her parents are secret--well...now no longer secret--government spies, and perhaps this is why Reynolds knows exactly what is going on!

Ravenclaw is rather glad that we managed to capture her interest in joining the house. So welcome, professor!

Professor Mallory Reynolds
Suggestions or random facts:
Be active in HOL! It's a great way to make friends and a fun way to learn something you wouldn't learn in Muggle school!
DON'T be intolerant and disrespectful to others.
DON'T criticize someone for being different than you. It is those differences that make the world a more interesting place to live.

Things to bribe her with (or talk about):
Something purple and pretty
Her favorite season is the fall, where the leaves start to change
She absolutely loves her collection of books (which makes her such a typical eagle!)
She likes Saturdays, and her favorite HP book is Order of the Phoenix
Favorite movies: Garden State, Ringu, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
