The Hybrid Houses Era
by Jenna Hathaway

Hybrid house is a term people use to call a mix of two primary houses. This trend started because it was getting hard to define someone with the traits of only one house. Truthfully, nobody's that simple, right? This new phenomenon could also explain the seemingly misplaced students in the books. At first glance Hermione should definitely be a Ravenclaw, but along with not-so-brave Neville, she ended up in Gryffindor. For Hermione's case, I believe she is a Ravendor, a mix of Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, with Gryffindor as her dominant side. Good thing the Sorting Hat doesn't judge a book by its cover, huh? Everyone has got another house's traits inside of him or her. If you want to know what your hybrid house would be, check the results of your sorting in HOL--the second highest percentage is your second house. Now let me explain what the outcome will be of each house's traits mixed with another. Again, this is not absolute, as it is impossible to group people into exact divisions. They're bound to have overlapping traits at some point. Hey, who knows, maybe you're a Slythergryffinpuff.

Slytherpuff: It feels like the exact opposite houses being mixed into one, doesn't it? But Slytherin's drive and Hufflepuff's hard work will pay in the end. They will be ambitious, but their fair side won't use every means possible to achieve their end. When I think of Slytherpuff, I think of Cedric Diggory.
A Slytherpuff Quote: "Ambitious enough to take over the world, innocent enough to be the last person anyone would suspect."

Ravendor: Ravenclaw's curiosity mixed with Gryffindor's boldness might result in students who just love to sneak into the Restricted Section of the library just to fulfill their curiousity. They're not reluctant to take risks to gain information. Ravendors might get in trouble because of their rash decisions, but with their brilliance they will always come up with a smart backup plan and solution. Some examples of Ravendor besides Hermione: Fred & George Weasley, Luna Lovegood.
A Ravendor Quote: "Smart enough to come up with a brilliant plan, brave enough to go through with it."

Slytherclaw: Evil genius is probably what comes to mind first. But remember, Slytherin isn't all filled with spawns of evil. A Slytherclaw would prefer to be and to work alone, as they rely only on their own capability and demand perfection that they feel no one else could achieve. With Slytherin's ambition and Ravenclaw's brains a Slytherclaw could end up being very successful. Professor Snape is a good example of a Slytherclaw.
A Slytherclaw Quote: "Ambitious enough to get what they want, smart enough to get close to the right people."

Gryffinpuff: At first glance seems to be the ultimate role model hybrid house: loyal, just, bold, hardworking, and compassionate, but hey, is anybody actually that perfect? It is one of the good mixes indeed, and a Gryffinpuff would be a really good friend to rely on at all times. They won't stab you from the back, but they would be fierce as a lion if you mess with their friends. Neville could be a good Gryffinpuff candidate.
A Gryffinpuff Quote: "Brave enough to follow through with your plan, loyal enough to sit beside you in jail afterwards."

Ravenpuff: A hardworking student, aided with brilliance, would definitely go far. They might seem like the ones who aren't particularly standing out compared to the others, but behind you they're working their way slowly but surely to the top of the ladder. Had Fleur Delacour been in Hogwarts, she probably would be a Ravenpuff.
A Ravenpuff Quote: "Hardworking enough to do things perfectly, smart enough to finish them in the shortest time possible."

Slytherdor: It's one of the seemingly contradicting hybrid houses as well. Slytherin's "using any means possible" clashes with Gryffindor's idealism. But together, they could make one strong competitive and ambitious student, brave and driven to be the best, to be in the spotlight. Although our little hero is more to the modest side, I believe Harry Potter is the best example of a Slytherdor.
A Slytherdor Quote: "Competitive enough to be number one, brave enough to actually do something to achieve it." So, which one is your hybrid house?
