Muffins: A Ravenclaw Tradition

You may be wondering why Ravenclaw is so muffin crazy. I mean, after all muffins are delicious, especially if you happen to visit the Roost just when we pull some freshly baked goodies out of the oven. However, to some people, muffins are good, but they seem a tad bit eccentric, even for the Eagles. So, why do we love them so much?

It all began with our Head Girl, the esteemed Leah Samson. Apparently, she used to say "Oh muffin!" instead of some non-G-rated term. Soon she began handing out muffins and more students followed her lead. Now, muffins are the official diet of the Eagles.

Muffins also have multiple uses. They are great for a light snack when you need to stay up late doing your HOL homework (we all do it). Muffins have been used to reward newbies and also to introduce them into the Ravenclaw culture. There have also been a few incidents where Eagles engaged in combat...er, food fights, used the muffin food group as their main weapon. They also make good bait for luring students and professors from the other houses into visit us. (Except for the use of muffin traps to keep those students and professors in the Roost).

You also can't forget May Muffin Madness run by Professor Angelus Darklost. Students showed their Ravenclaw pride for muffins! Needless to say, lots of muffins were given out (and eaten). Bess Vane and Icarus Nazca also won the titles of Muffin Master and Mistress!

Muffins are also part of pop culture. These delicous baked goods are found in some well known books and even in the music world. Martha and the Muffins are a great band to listen to in order to show your Ravenclaw pride. A favorite song which is often heard inside the Roost is "The Muffin Man Song." Eagles are also seen to be reading "If You Give a Moose a Muffin" well into the night.

Yet another question remains unanswered. What is the best flavor? According to polls in the Ravenclaw common room, Double Chocolate (Chocolate muffin with chocolate chips), appears to be in the lead, but Eagles love every kind of muffin! Other favorites are blueberry and chocolate chip. Personally, I prefer chocolate chip, corn muffins, and poppyseed.

As you can see, muffins are an important Ravenclaw tradition. If it were not for muffins, the Eagles would become sick and frail, we would almost never have any visitors, and we would lose a great sense of house pride. Muffins are just one more thing that makes Ravenclaw better than the rest. If you do not believe me, just pop into the Roost anytime and enjoy our hospitality and delicacies.
