The 'Mythos' of the Unicorn
Tarma Black (Hufflepuff)

Unicorns in the western world have been under a severe strain to conceal their true nature. Recently, however, there has been an outbreak of discoveries about just what the unicorn really is.

An author of muggle books, Meredith Ann Pierce, recently wrote this about her book (which contained unicorns):

"Don't mess with unicorns. They're heavily armed. Just look at their hooves: cloven, axe-bladed hammers. A spiral skewer for a horn. About as ponylike as a rampaging warhorse. Cuddly as a lance. I'm just telling you. These are not your baby sister's unicorns, your maiden aunt's well-mannered dream. These are the real thing. Warriors. Wayfarers. Wyvern-slayers. I have no interest in the other sort and couldn't write about them if I tried. These characters have been with me for a very long time. There is something entirely primal about them. ..."

For a long time, the mythos about unicorns was that they would be tempted by a pure maiden or lad into meekly being captured. Within captivity they would be used for their magical powers, or killed, according to the whim of the captors. This was something that the unicorns of the western world suffered, but now they are beginning to reconsider their position in light of the world changes which are happening. Yes, they are joining with the rest of the unicorn population throughout the world, and letting people know that they are not toys, or fuzzy, safe, defenseless creatures which can be toyed with and/or killed without consequence to the slayer.

Why, you might ask, did the unicorns allow the mythos of their defenseless, nay, almost helpless, reputation to be so prevalent in Western society? It is not known for sure, but there is a suspicion that they allowed this simply in order to put themselves into position and, when the time came, they would be here in numbers sufficient to participate in a world-wide cleansing of what is termed evil.

After all, part of their nature is to undo evil -- and they are very good at it.
