I Am Legend
Adeliene Cromwell
As an avid movie goer, I am always interested in where the source of inspiration for the next hot movie comes from. Thus, when I saw a preview for I Am Legend, I figured I had put off reading the book long enough. I ran to the closest "Barnes & Noble" (okay, I drove) and picked up a copy, not knowing much about the book outside of the fact that vampires were involved.
I think I liked the book. It is a journey in itself, and full of unexpected surprises. To begin, the book is actually a collection of short stories. Whether or not the stories co-exist in the same time frame is still quite uncertain. The first 160 or so pages are all about Robert being the last man on earth. For this story alone, I would give the book a 9 out of 10. It is well-written, entertaining, and extremely realistic. "Vampires? Realistic?" you ask? The way they became vampires is described in tremendous scientific detail, making it believable. This story can be enjoyed by fantasy fans and science fiction fanatics alike. Zenix James had this to say about the book: "The book confused me so much. However, it was a good book. Entertaining. I liked it."
The rest of the book is broken into short stories. I won't go into too many details, because I believe the book was enjoyable because I didn't know what to expect. I will offer two warnings, however: the majority of the book is more geared towards fans of supernatural stories, and it is probably not for the younger kids. Parents, be forewarned. I would say 13+ is good.
Even though I am not quite sure how they are going to make it into a movie, unless they are only focusing on the first story, hopefully I will be able to review it after seeing it as well. All in all, I would give the book a 7/10.
